Janine Berdin delves into complicated “Sitwasyonship”

LA Music Review | Art, stories and advice

Pop, catchy, and full of fireworks!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Janine Berdin, acclaimed Filipina singer-songwriter and season 2 winner of ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan,’ has released the music video for her latest track, ‘Sitwasyonship.’ This is her first release as an independent artist, and as a band member with Kirk Basilio, Luke Casanova, and TJ Castillon, solidifying her status in the music industry.

Sitwasyonship explores the common but complicated relationship status, situationshipโ€”a relationship without clear boundaries, labels, or expectations.

Ano ba ang sa tawag sa ‘di ko nga syota
Pero kayakap ko naman sa gabi?

Kudos to beautifully-crafted creative music video by Toothless Create, directed by Jonathan Tal Placido, and produced by Janine Berdin herself. Janine sang from the perspective of a woman who is in an unwantedly undefined romantic relationship that exists somewhere in between a casual hookup and a commitment. Written like a cry for love, the song also has creepy and dark elements in its production to bring out the obsessive, almost-humorous, longing of a meaningful connection.

Sitwasyonship” depicts the difficulties and uncertainties in relationships where sentiments are strongly involved, yet labels and definitions are still unclear.

The danger of having situationship is it may soon lead to ghosting. Holding on to a situation that no longer serve you can keep you from finding a new romance.

Janine Berdin is definitely a pop gem of the Philippines! “This melancholic and catchy pop song, “Sitwasyonship” is definitely worth adding to your playlists!
