LA Music Review | Art, stories and advice
Fresh yet totally outrageous!

In this day and age, what’s more important, the BEAT or the LYRICS? How does pop music affect the young generation?
Grammy Award winner and singer-songwriter SZA released her trending single “Kill Bill”. Fans and non-fans can’t stop singing her song, especially the chorus, a sure hit! But have you checked the lyrics of the song or is the beat more important to you?
Uh, I just killed my ex (my ex)
Not the best idea (idea)
Killed his girlfriend next, how’d I get here?
I just killed my ex (my ex)
I still love him, though (I do)
Rather be in Hell than alone
The song is actually a trigger point for those who are in a vulnerable state. Since everything about it sounds cool and it’s a hit song, someone might think it’s all right to do a crime just so he or she could get justice for “love”.

How does it affect the young generation? It brainwashes them and may think that what they hear is actually typical but in reality, it’s totally alarming! Though we can no longer prohibit artists to express themselves through music, what we can normalize is the guidance we can give to the young ones, to children who are in their growing up stage.
Final thoughts on SZA’s “Kill Bill”? It has a fantastic sound to it, it brings everyone to sing in chorus but definitely questionable in terms of lyric meaning.
