Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration when you were writing this project?

Released on February 23, 2024. My latest 3-track single release, “Hopeless Romantic” are all about “rejection.” Written at different times. I planned to release them after Valentineโ€™s day because I wanted these songs to be like “Anti-Valentine” anthems.

My focus track, “How Does It Feel Like” was written in early 2023. It was about a person who was reluctant about going back to the dating scene and opening themselves to someone new after being in and out of failed relationships. It was inspired by my own and my friendโ€™s shared experiences (shoutout to Aly Momongan!)

I started writing the draft for “Unlove You” in the year 2011, when I was a high school sophomore. The lyrics were finished around December 2017, when I experienced a heartbreak that was the โ€œlast strawโ€ to make me leave that situationship that I was in. The song was shelved for years until I decided to collaborate with artist-producer Edward Anthony to bring the song to life. I simply thought that a lot of people could relate to the song which is why I finally โ€œtook it out of the baulโ€

As for โ€œNo Regretsโ€, it was written on Valentines Day 2015, as a confession/acceptance-of-rejection song for a crush I had back when I was in college. It was initially written as a piano ballad and hidden in โ€œthe baulโ€ for years until my fellow Cre8 artist Dud Lemon reimagined the song into something more โ€œpalatableโ€ for this generationโ€™s audience.

What lessons would you like to impart with your audience?

Rejection is a part of life. These are meant to redirect us to a better path; because sometimes, what we want may not necessarily be the best for us. Whatโ€™s meant to be for us will eventually find its way to us, in a perfect time. We just have to accept the results gracefully and to be patient.

What is your favorite part of this body of work?

I love the fact that this project was a fusion of โ€œoldโ€ and โ€œnewโ€. These are โ€œoldโ€ songs that were breathed into life by โ€œnewโ€ producers, namely: Wile Lile, Edward Anthony, and Dud Lemon. It was my first time working with all three of them (hence, considering them as โ€œnewโ€) and I learned a lot from this collaborative experience.

Nico Frayn‘s music has the ability to evoke emotions and touch our hearts. His songs have a radio-friendly sound, with excellent vocals that are somewhat similar to Ben&Ben’s music. The lyrics are meaningful, and the melody and storytelling are superb. It would be great to pitch his work to movie producers, so that his masterpieces can be given a platform to convey their message of waiting, yearning, and hope in love. Nico’s music is perfect for those quiet moments when we wonder if love will find us. If you are not currently on Cupid’s list, patience is key, just as Nico has shared.
