Hi welcome to LA Music Review! Tell us a little bit about you and your music.

I’ve been singing since before I could talk according to my parents. I sang my first solo in church at the age of 4 and never stopped. Growing up in the church gave me opportunities to sing solos as well as large group ensembles where I learned how to harmonize. I was always into writing songs from a young age but never released or shared too many of them until the last few years. The years before I graduated high school, I was involved in every band and music group I could possibly be a part of in a town of 6,000 people in rural Minnesota.

I moved to Minneapolis to study music and received a degree in vocal music from North Central University. The years after college I had opportunities to sing solos in front of thousands of people for churches and sporting events. I sang for weddings, funerals and even was a singing mannequin for events. I did everything I knew to do creatively to share my talents.

I moved to LA seven months before COVID so I got a little taste of pre-pandemic life here and then things changed for a time. Pre-covid I was regularly singing Jazz standards at The Dresden. I also got to sing at Molly Malone’s Irish Pub and sing around SoCal doing singer songwriter gigs with my friend Matt Koelsch.

I’m currently writing, recording my music in the studio and releasing my own music this year. So far this year I’ve released three songs, two of which are my originals.

Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration when you were writing this song?

Released on August 27, 2021. I wrote this song about a break up I had a long time ago. This song talks about all the fun we had, living it up and enjoying life and then all of a sudden in a blink of an eye, it all went dry. Our relationship ended and I knew that I needed to move. Deep down, I knew there was something better and it took me having to experience this one moment in time to see that.

What lessons would you like to impart with your audience?

Honestly, I NEEDED to write this song for my own healing. I was so devastated and hurt from this relationship and I had to get it out of me somehow. If I didn’t write this song, I don’t think I would have been able to process and move on from the situation the same way. When people listen to Run Away, I want people to feel empowered.

I always believe that when something has ended for me, it’s because there’s something even better in my future waiting for me to discover. I also believe in the importance of self love and self care. You’ve gotta love yourself enough that you’re willing to step out of the situation and open yourself up to something better.

What is your favorite part of this body of work?

Well, I love the country guitar sounds in this track that sound like pedal steel guitar. Growing up my dad played pedal steel guitar and hearing that sound played throughout this track just evokes so much emotion for me. I love the chorus of this song that starts with “steppin’ out to see, there’s gotta be more for me”. This part has so much movement and energy as the song grows and climbs up higher which signifies a higher place emotionally as well.

Anything else we should know about it? Future releases?

I’ve got a lot more songs that I’ll be releasing! So far, they’re singles only but maybe down the line I will make a full album. Currently, I’m in the studio finishing up my next release that’s about moving to LA. I can’t WAIT for everyone to hear that one!
