Hi Melissa, welcome to LA Music Review! Tell us a little bit about you and your music.

I’m Melissa Corpus, a PWD indie singer-songwriter from Rizal, Philippines…

who discovered my gift in songwriting in 2020 during the pandemic. Despite having a physical disability (impaired hearing and inborn Bell’s palsy), I hope to inspire and influence others through my music.

I started as a content creator in 2019, and initiated my advocacy in supporting aspiring singer-songwriters and content creators by flexing their music in PPF (Proud Pinoy Fan) Live Sessions in 2020 on my YouTube channel.

I’m mostly known for my ‘hugot’ songs but I also have pop, gospel, alternative songs in my repertoire to cater for a more varied audience.

Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration when you were writing this project?

Released on July 29, 2022. I wrote Ikaw ang Pinili 2 years ago. I was inspired by the idea of creating a wedding song with a waltz style (influenced by the waltz style of Reiner Espiel’s original song, Hatinggabi after I interviewed him on my show).

Sometimes, we ask why it took so long before we finally meet the One. Some say you should pray for it, others will tell us just leave it all to destiny.

The song is dedicated for everyone who finally met their answered prayer, “The One” that God has prepared for them. The song evolves as a story on how friends turned into lovers and decided to spend the rest of their lives with each other.

I hope many can relate to this wedding song, and hopefully they can use it soon to celebrate their event. 🙂

Special thanks to my good friend, Joseph Byron Sese of Kuwento Ni Pedro for arranging this song, and to kuya Charlie Alonzo for the lovely cover art.

What is your vision for this song?

I’d like to promote this song to online and mainstream radios.

And if given the chance, I’d like to showcase my music also on mainstream TV.

I want to create more songs with this theme. It would be awesome if the audience can feel the sincerity and honesty of the song that it will strike their core when they hear this. Love has its own timing so just be patient and love will find you soon.

What is your favorite part of this body of work?

My favorite part on this song is the bridge.

Lahat ng tanong ay nasagot ngayon
Lahat ng kulang ay binuo ng panahon
Sabay nating lalakbayin
Mundo hawak pag-ibig natin

It’s like everything finally fell into place. All the questions were answered and they’re finally here, making a promise for a lifetime commitment.

Anything else we should know about it? Future releases?

Yes, more song release for me this year. I will be releasing more songs (mga songs na nasa YT ko). I also have song collaborations with other artists and arrangers na talagang nakaka-excite. And, I’ll be part of a praise and worship album for release by the end of this year.
