LA Music Review | Art, stories and advice

Romantic and truly powerful!

Hi Eugenie, welcome to LA Music Review! Tell us a little bit about you and your music.

Eugenie Tan is a singer-songwriter based in the Philippines.

She found her way back to music during the peak of the pandemic last 2021. Never would have really thought that she would gain back her passion in music as she had been very busy with travelling, hiking and work.

She thought that music was not meant for her. Not until one night when she suddenly felt like there was a melody ringing in her head that needed to be taken out and be heard. It was the night that she wrote her first song during the pandemic, Burning. This is how she began writing original compositions again and how she started her journey as an independent artist. Her genre is composed of alternative rock, pop rock and ballad.

Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration when you were writing this project?

The title of the song is “Shine” and was released to music digital platforms last 23 September 2022.

The song was written a few weeks after I attended the wedding of my close friend last year, 2021. One night, it just came to me that I’d like to write a song that could be used on wedding or prenup videos. As an inspiration, I started watching some prenup videos and was deeply inspired from the vows of couples made for each other.

The song simply narrates about a woman who’s waiting for her loved one to propose to her. In the guy’s perspective, it narrates about him waiting for his woman to say YES to his marriage proposal.

What lessons would you like to impart with your audience?

Don’t be afraid to express how you truly feel when you’ve already met the right person in your life because it’s not often that you find the missing piece in your puzzles.

What is your favorite part of this body of work?

Definitely, the bridge is my most favorite part in the song and will always be. It goes like this…

See you in the afternoon
We watch the sunset
Everything is beautiful with you by my side
Every chord is rushin’ as every word from you is now falling…falling

This is the moment when the couple finally expressed how they felt for each other. Saying “YES, I’m ready to spend the rest of my life with you. YOU, the person who shed light into my life and made me feel lighter than ever.”

Anything else we should know about it? Future releases?

I released “Shine” as my 5th single on Spotify and other music digital platforms. The music was arranged and produced by One Roots Records.

I have an upcoming single called, “Palayain”, to be released under POR (Pinoy Online Radio) Vol. 2 before the end of this year. It was arranged and produced by Mr. Obet Rivera, one of the respected indie artists that I’ve known in the indie community. You may follow me on Facebook for more updates on future releases.
