Hi Jonas, welcome to LA Music Review! Tell us a little bit about you and your music.

I’m Jonas Lozano, a singer-songwriter/musician from Iloilo City. I used to play drums for a local band, 3 Kens & a Barbie, and played bass for Khaeden Golez. Then, I turned solo in 2020. I only learned to play the instruments I know now late in life and improved on them by playing in church.

Since I’ve been writing materials of my own, I was encouraged to join a local group of Ilonggo musicians called iiBAP (ilonggo indie Bands & Artists Portal) in September 28, 2020. The group pushed our original songs, submitting them to a couple of online radios here in the Philippines like Hit Radio and Madhouse Music.

Right now, I’m with a talent management group and events organizer, NewVibe Ph. They are essential in producing my music. Kring, my girlfriend, inspired most of my original songs. But I also have praise and worship pieces with Jesus as the theme. It usually has the rock and new wave vibes that influenced me growing up.

Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration when you were writing this project?

Released on January 21, 2023. I thought of creating simple church songs made for children, with easy-to-remember lyrics repeated throughout the song, yet very lively. It can be danceable, expressing the truths in the faith professed. It also sends a deep gratitude to our Savior for what He did on the cross to save us from sin and who gave us eternal life.

I don’t want to sound preachy, but rather, I want to have fun with the music I make. I’m happy to share my music with everyone.

What is your vision for this song?

I envisioned my song to be similar to one of those modern worship songs produced by big churches in Australia. My earlier influences of those are in Anaheim, California, which are popular in the 90s.

What lessons would you like to impart with your audience?

I want to highlight that we must not forget to express gratitude to our Maker. We should find ways to show our love and appreciation to Him through our hearts and minds, especially on what we believe in and what truth the scriptures say. I hope that we are reminded of His faithfulness to us through this song.

What is your favorite part of the song?

My favorite part of the song is even with just one word, “cross,” sung over and over, it meant a lot of things to those who have come to know the one called our Savior.

Anything else we should know about? Future releases?

We in iiBAP, solo artists and bands, have been performing for Ilonggo Composers Night as Iloilo celebrates the Dinagyang Festival. We are set to perform at Cubix Park here in Iloilo City on the 20th and on the 21st at SM City where I’ll be singing my released and unreleased songs.

I plan to release my fifth song on major digital music platforms Thank You Lord in a month or two.
