Manchester-based singer-songwriter Kyle Toolan

released a new song titled “Lightning” on March 13th. This is his second single following the release of “Overcast” on New Year’s Day. “Lightning” is a heartfelt ballad about unrequited love, written and produced by Kyle Toolan himself.

A few years ago Kyle wanted to get away from all of the noise of the practice room he was in. So he sat outside in the cold, noodling on an acoustic guitar. Out of nowhere, Kyle played a chord progression he’d never played before, and before he knew it lightning’s lyrics, melody and structure fell effortlessly into place in the space of about 30 minutes.

Based on the reactions of people around him Kyle knew that this song was something special. He couldn’t pinpoint the exact reason why, but every time he played an open mic night, gig or other event, it always seemed to be the favorite song.

Because of this he didn’t want to risk rushing the release. Kyle was still very new to production and he thought it would be shame to not do the song the justice it deserved.
