Mathieu Karsenti is a true artist and a musical visionary of modern sonic landscapes, at ease scoring to picture or composing outstanding solo projects where he highlights his distinctive voice.
He stands as a true ‘modern-day French Impressionist for the Social Media generation’.

Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration when you were writing this project?
Mathieu Karsenti’s Nocturnes are conversations and meditations.
Released April 10, 2023. Conversations between musical entities and defined identities through duos of clarinet and flute, violin and viola. Meditations and reflections are illustrated by repetition and expansion, like mantras.
His suggested atmospheres are poetically charged and painted on to accompany us on this meditative journey taking place at nighttime.
Nocturnal dreamscapes evoke internal conflicts or revelations, and this enticing imaginary noise gives us the freedom to explore what we want, open to interpretation.

What is your vision for this song?
‘I propose ambiances, atmospheres, abstract musical paintings that are open-minded enough to invite the listener in. On ‘Nocturnes’, nighttime was the inspiration but the results are abstract and undefined on purpose – the listener is free to interpret what they hear as they wish, they can take their time to penetrate that sound world and imagine what they want.’
What is your favorite part of this body of work?
Fusing acoustic instruments (flute, clarinet, violin and viola) with electric guitars, sound FX, foley and ambient synths and drones was fun and a chance to be creative with atmospheres and textures.
Anything else we should know about it? Future releases?
Mathieu’s future release set for around October time will be a suite for solo piano.
