Hi Five Candles, welcome to LA Music Review! Tell us a little bit about you and your music.

Five Candles is an independent acoustic alter pop rock band from Iloilo City, Philippines.

Our band name is derived from the song Five Candles (You Where There) by an international Christian pop band, Jars of Clay.

The band was formed in 2018, but we only released our first album, “New Beginning” with the carrier single “My Apology” last March 2020.

The members of the band are Ryan Earl Nite Sedano (vocals/acoustic guitar), (vocals/acoustic guitar), Christian Carmelo del Castillo (ambient rhythm guitars), Gabriel Leonard Legaspi (lead guitars/backing vocals), Rumar Tacdoro (base/backing vocals), and Michael Maloto (drums/backing vocals).

Ryan is the key player of the band. He is the songwriter, drummer, rhythm acoustic guitar player, and arranger.

Five Candles makes sure that their songs are relatable to everyone. They create music based on real-life past and present experiences or day-to-day struggles revolving around relationships, family, love, and work.

Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration when you were writing this project?

X (Hello) is about reconnecting with your past relationship, like “Hey! How are you now? Are you okay? How’s life now? Just checking on you”. But in the latter part of the song, he admitted his mistake of not having the guts to fight for their love.

But the question is, is it okay for your current lover to check up on your ex? Is it ok to have communication once in a while?

What is your vision for this song?

We’d like this song to be an opener that it’s okay to check on our ex, but be reminded you should maintain a “no strings attached” status to avoid complications if you’re in a relationship.

When dealing with your ex, it’s best to let go of the ill feelings and hatred. Be open to forgiveness and friendship.

Time heals, but we should never hurry. There’s always a perfect timing to forgive and rebuild the friendship. Let everything fall into place if it’s God’s will.

What is your favorite part of this body of work?

We love the last part because of the repetition of the word “Hello” which relates to our past lover.

This song is a mix of alternative-pop rock acoustic sounds than drums. It’s evident on our recordings because I was formerly a drummer.

“I started making my songs with a drum pattern which is weird for most artists and musicians. Once I am inspired to write songs, I can create them in 15 minutes or less. Maybe that’s miracle. I’m grateful to God for this. But now, I usually start with acoustic guitars when creating music” Ryan says.
