LA Music Review | Art, stories and advice
Honest, relatable, and full of charm!

There are songs that simply sound good, and then there are songs that make you feel seen.
Arthur Nery‘s “Desperado,” from his latest album Fictions You Produce, belongs to the latter. It isn’t just another love song, it’s poetry wrapped in melody, capturing one of the most frustrating emotions we can experience: wanting someone deeply but never finding the courage to tell them.
From the very first verse, Arthur paints the picture of someone whose feelings are sincere yet trapped behind silence. “Talo palagi ang mahiyain. Kulang sa lalim kung pahiwatig lang.” Those lines remind us that love isn’t always absent because feelings aren’t real. Sometimes, it simply loses to fear. We convince ourselves that hints are enough, while hoping the other person somehow understands what we never dared to say.
Have you ever loved someone so much that your imagination knew them better than your reality ever could?
That thought becomes even more powerful in the chorus. Arthur sings about vividly imagining the person he loves, yet realizing that no amount of daydreaming can replace action. No matter how detailed the fantasy is, it still isn’t enough to make that person his. It’s a painful truth many of us have experienced. We replay conversations that never happened, create futures that never came, and hope that somehow our feelings will speak louder than our silence.
Perhaps that’s why “Desperado” resonates with so many listeners.
At some point, we’ve all been desperate, not because love made us weak, but because it made us vulnerable. Desperation is a very human emotion. It reminds us how deeply we can care. Yet this song also quietly teaches us that while it’s okay to feel desperate, we should never let desperation become the only thing guiding our choices. Love still needs courage, honesty, and respect, for ourselves and for the person we love.

How many beautiful stories never began simply because no one was brave enough to say, “I like you”?
What makes this song even more captivating is Arthur Nery himself. His unmistakable vocal style carries emotion with remarkable restraint. He doesn’t need to oversing to make listeners feel every word. Every phrase feels carefully placed, every lyric thoughtfully written, and every note serves the story. That’s a rare kind of artistry.
Arthur has always had a gift for turning emotions into music, but “Desperado” proves that his songwriting continues to evolve. His work isn’t limited to Filipino audiences alone. The themes of longing, vulnerability, and silent love are universal, enabling his music to reach listeners far beyond the Philippines.
For me, Arthur Nery is already a superstar, not simply because of his voice, but because of the honesty and craftsmanship he pours into every song. If Fictions You Produce is any indication of where his artistry is headed, then this is only the beginning. Years from now, I believe people will still return to songs like Desperado, not just because they remember the melody, but because they remember how it made them feel.
