Hi Ben, welcome to LA Music Review! Tell us a little bit about you and your music.

Singer, songwriter, music producer, voice actor and motion capture artist, Ben Fairey made a lucrative earning in the UK as a composer for touring theatre troupes. He also worked as a session musician for the BBC and an actor at Ealing Studios.

In 2011, he formed the electronic musical collective, Floe-Joe’s Faces, releasing two studio albums, completing a UK tour and performing at the world-famous Edinburgh Festival.

His first effort as a solo artist was the Destination EP.

A sultry mix of electronic drums, ambient synths and jazz piano samples, it became a blueprint for his solo work. A remix for the single ‘Aygm’ was well received by critics and audiences, becoming a minor hit on the UK dance scene.

Expanding both his musical and visual fields, Fairey recorded music using a mixture of analogue and digital sound palettes, producing a hybrid of both ultra-modern and retro-inspired material. He even integrated green screen and motion capture technology into the compositions, creating a series of videos reflecting the songs’ lyrical subject matter.

Now based in Los Angeles, he also works in voice acting and motion capture.

Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration when you were writing this project?

Released February 5, 2023. Previous work by Ben Fairey has touched on the classic themes of modern music, namely falling in and out of love or drowning your sorrows by dancing the night away. Unlike every young artist who boldly proclaims the real, lived experience of their music, he is a narrator to humanity with a wider field of vision, laying down a reality for people to observe.

Songs about love and human connection in the modern world of technological reliance and ever-assuming self-identity is a reality of most people and his latest material illustrates this to no end.

The first track is a foreboding, jazzy groove, a musical harbinger detailing a pending, chemical connection between two strangers.

An easy-going bounce-beat with the lyrics detailing spontaneous flirtation between two people from opposite ends of a night club. Fairey croons “Silent disco vibes, your headphone disguise”, a poetic description of a modern hook-up scene that dilutes pure experiences with background noise.

Many remain in their own bubbles like they’re attending a silent disco, not sharing their realities. Ironically the simulated environment designed to connect the two strangers proves to be too disruptive. They don’t follow through with their flirtation and ultimately search for another place to finish what they began.

What is your vision for this song?

The song is a representation of the world we live in, how we connect with each other.

When people hear the lyrics or see the video I hope they think about their own lives and how much all this modern chaos is shrouding their personal truth.

Anything else we should know about it? Future releases?
