Hi Lisa, welcome to LA Music Review! Tell us a little bit about you and your music.
Hi! My name is Lisa Danaë and I’m a Filipino-American artist born and raised in southern California. I use my music to tell stories of growth and empowerment, and to let my fans know that they are not alone. One of my biggest achievements was my single, “Weigh Me Down”, being nominated for Song of the Year at the Wavy Awards, an award show focused on honoring minority talent within music.
Last year, I was selected for the GRAMMY NEXT program which is a significant milestone in my career, and it is an incredible opportunity to take my music to new heights.

Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration when you were writing this project?
The lyrics delve into the complex and often painful process of grieving, exploring different emotions that can accompany a loss.
Released on March 10, 2023. This song was inspired by the passing of two of my grandparents in 2019—my mom’s dad passed in March 2019 and my dad’s mom passed in November 2019.
What is your vision for this song? What lessons would you like to impart with your audience?
The conversation around grief is intimidating. I found it hard going through this challenging part of life while also absorbing the emotions of my family and friends. I also felt pressure from society to move forward quickly, even though I wasn’t ready.
I hope people who also find grieving difficult, or can’t describe what they’re going through, can feel connected to it as they move toward their transformation.
What is your favorite part of the song?
I love the pre-chorus, specifically, the second pre-chorus. I loved piecing all of the vocal textures together throughout this production, but there’s something so delicate yet tense about the vocal build in this part of the song.
Paired with the lyrics in the pre-chorus, this section perfectly describes my experience with grieving as a whole.

This is the first single off of my long-awaited 7-song EP set to release in 2024. I am going to be one of the supporting acts at an artist’s (unannounced at the moment) EP release party in Los Angeles in Summer 2023, and working towards playing more shows as I continue to rollout this project.
