LA Music Review | Art, stories and advice

Retro pop, vibrant and empowering!

Hi Dud Lemon, welcome back to LA Music Review!

Hello LAMR! It’s great to be back and flex my new collaboration with Thoughts and Notions.

Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration when you were doing this project?

Released on May 10, 2023. As a producer and beatmaker, I wanted to capture the feeling of the original Thoughts and Notions song, “Brand New Reason.” It’s about rediscovering your reason to live but reinterpret it from a somber pop ballad to a nostalgic dance hit. I really love the disco and synthwave sound and tried my hand in implementing it in a fully realized song.

What is your vision for this song?

“BNR” expresses the sheer happiness and energy from finding your brand new reason. The track drifts from hazy verses, where one is lost into bursting in vibrant and dazzling choruses, declaring to the world that you have found your heart and soul.

With this remix, I want the listeners to experience the same joy and motivation I had when making the song. I found my brand new reason in the original “Brand New Reason.”

What is your favorite part of this body of work?

If you can tell, it’s the synthesizer solo. I originally wanted to add backup vocal layers with Kai Huyno‘s original vocals. Those melodies ended up becoming the synth layers singing along with the main vocalist in the last chorus. It then escalated to a full-blown synthesizer solo I was singing in my head nonstop to get the pitch-bends, licks, and riffs just right. It brought the whole track to life with EDM vibes.

Anything else we should know about it? Future releases?

Stay tuned to my next remix release for Jonah Agas‘ upcoming EP. I am branching out to different genres for this one.

I also have some collaborations in the works with my fellow Cre8ors so look forward to that.
