LA Music Review | Art, stories and advice
Chill and totally entertaining!

Hi Melissa Corpus, welcome back to LA Music Review! Tell us a little bit about you and your music.
I’m Melissa Corpus, a PWD singer-songwriter and Cre8Music artist from Montalban, Rizal, Philippines. I discovered my gift in songwriting in 2020 and released six singles in digital streaming platforms—Senyales, Munting Hiling, Ikaw ang Pinili, Tahanan, Kapit Lang, and Kamusta Ka sa Langit last year.

My songs are usually on the “hugot” ballads (emo) type of songs. But, my music continues to evolve as I try to experiment on different genres to connect with varied listeners. My core influences in singing and songwriting are Ebe Dancel, Moira dela Torre, Yeng Constantino, Regine Velasquez, and Kyla.
Last July 3, I performed “Ikaw ang Gabay” with sir Archie Salvador (former guitarist of Zelle and Gloc-9), at WISH Bus RoadShow, as part of “We Praise” album promotion of Songwriters United, distributed by KDR Music House, and interpreted by Soulful Duo.
Living with inborn Bell’s Palsy and impaired hearing is a challenge, especially now that I’m performing for a live audience. I recently finished my online voice classes under Jojo Acosta at Singer Studio. He was a great motivator who constantly reminded me that I have to believe in myself and this gift from God must be honed and shared with the world.
Through my story and music, I hope to inspire my co-PWDs that having a disability must not hinder them from realizing their dreams. It will not be an easy journey but through hard work, patience, and faith in God, nothing is impossible. Dream big and make it happen.

Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration when you were writing this project?
Released on July 14, 2023. “Ansabe” (shortened Tagalog word for “Ang sabi” (“They say” in english), was written for everyone who are still single (unmarried) and at their late 20’s and up.
It’s an acoustic chill track that will definitely put you in a good mood since its very relatable for most Filipinos at this generation. You will love the beat, arrangement and it’s catchy (LSS) melody. Luckily, the song made it to Spotify Philippines’ OPM Unplugged editorial playlist.
Sometimes it gets annoying when people asks you: “When are you getting married? “When are we going to meet your significant other?” So that inspired me to write “Ansabe.”
What is your vision for this song? What lessons would you like to impart with your audience?
You don’t have to rush things. If you still have goals to achieve, then do it. If you have priorities and responsibilities, then love can wait.
Do not settle for less because everyone is getting married. Always pray for wisdom and discernment to God to lead you to the right person at His perfect time.
What is your favorite part of this body of work?
My favorite part is the Chorus because it has a catchy melody!
Ansabe, kailan ka ba mag-aasawa?
Ansabe, kailan mo ba pakikilala?
Sasabihin ko sa inyo
Pag ready na ako wohh

I’d love to give credit to my sessionist Sir Archie Salvador who did the lead and rhythm guitars on the track. Big thank you also to sir Henry Alburo (the viral DJ Squammy of “Bawal Lumabas” hit song) for taking charge of the recording, mixing, and mastering at Polysonic Recording Studio in Marikina City. Credits also goes to Roshan Art for the cover art and JL Gaddi for the lyric video.
